I had so much fun getting out of the studio this last week and meeting the nicest people! Thank you Bella Vita for the fantastic trunk show in Collierville, TN.!!!  If you know Stephanie then you know what a fantastic event it was.  She always goes beyond my expectations in all that she does.

FYI - If you happen to be in the Atlanta area in the next couple of months you may find my work at Saks.   I have more pieces headed their way shortly!!

Oxford, Mississippi Artist Studio and Recent Work

My mom and dad live in the beautiful town of Oxford, Mississippi.  Their home is a stones throw from the home of Pulitzer Prize winner, William Faulkner.  I must confess that my sister, brother and I did not appreciate growing up in this unique place until we had moved on to what we thought were greener pastures.

Lois (my mom) and Katherine (my sister) at the studio

My parents recently completed the construction of a beautiful studio in their Oxford backyard. If you have not figured it out yet, my mom, sister and I are all painters. We thought it would be fun to host an open studio for the public so we hung the art (thank you, Dad) turned on the music and lit the outdoor fire - you never know who may stop by! We loved meeting new friends and appreciate our lifelong friends that always come out to support us!!!  We were so excited to meet the new Director of the University of Mississippi Museum, Robert Saarnio.  He has recently landed in Oxford by the way of Hawaii. Thank you, Andi Bedsworth, for bringing him our way!  We really enjoyed catching up with old friends and neighbors.  Toyo Bruss called to say that she was bringing her new neighbor.  Her new neighbor was none other than artist Sheila Stott Gourlay!  LOVE her work and hope she hangs around Oxford a little longer!  You can view her work at the Soren Christensen Gallery in New Orleans. Thanks to everyone that stopped by and can't wait to host our next event!!!

Sarah Robertson Art for November 2012

I am catching my breath today after participating in two events this past weekend.  Friday I visited with my friends at The Farmhouse in Tupelo, MS. We were celebrating their Christmas Open House. The shop is beautiful. I know that Halloween has barely passed, but I found myself getting in the Christmas mood.  Check out the decorated shovels hanging at the entrance. Perfect for a farmhouse!!

I spent Saturday and Sunday at the St. George's Fine Art Show in Collierville, TN.  This is a highly anticipated show each year and I was honored to participate.  It was an added bonus that my mother and sister also showed their work!  So much fun!

Next weekend I will travel to Oxford, Mississippi.  My mother, Lois Arrechea, my sister, Katherine Reed, and I will be hosting an open studio showing several of our latest pieces.  My mom and dad recently had a small cottage built in their backyard to use as her art studio.  I am so jealous!!!  It will be open to the public on Saturday, November 10.  We would love so see you if you happen to be in Oxford on November 10th!!  More info can be found at www.threesouthernartists.com.

Hanging at Leiper's Fork!

My sister Katherine at Pucket's Grocery

I accompanied my mother to the Harding Art Show in Nashville, Tennessee this past weekend and had a fabulous time! We took a side trip to the historic village of Leiper's Fork just south of Nashville. What a unique place.  It has strict building codes so it feels as though time has stood still for the past 50 years. Pucket's Grocery is the place to eat, listen to up and coming musicians, and hang out with the many bikers and cyclists traveling through. Add several bed and breakfast establishments and great art galleries to the mix and you have a wonderful experience! More info at www.visitleipersfork.com.

Nationally known Nashville artist David Arms has recently opened his gallery in Leiper's Fork. As we approached "the barn" (that is what he calls it) we were welcomed by a burning fire pit surrounded with seating.  Softly playing fiddle music filled the air.  Our eyes were drawn to the field beyond to a breathtaking view of freshly cut hay bales. Several artists were set up in the field painting plien air. Wish I could have joined them! We finally made our way into the gallery and were happily surprised to find the artist himself. He told us that he is there 2 days a week and paints in his studio the other 5 days. His wife runs the show otherwise. I encourage you to view his website at www.davidarms.com. Take the time to read about the symbolism in his art. I hope to get back to Leiper's Fork soon and hopefully you will too!

THANKS OXFORD! ANOTHER GREAT DOUBLE DECKER!

My sweet sister, Katherine, needing her morning cup of coffee.
The calm before the storm!

We want to thank the city of Oxford, MS for another great event!  A huge thanks also goes to all of the guys in our family!  I am blessed with  a husband, a dad and sons that were willing to lend us their support on this day.   From the moment that we entered the square around 6:15 a.m. on Sat. it was fast and furious.  The crowd was estimated to be 50,000 plus.  Our iPad/credit card app worked great for the first few hours but by 11:00 a.m. the server was over loaded and  customers proceeded to empty the nearby ATMs.  So much for taking advantage of the latest technology! We've now packed the tents away but look forward to using them again next year at this great event!

ART, MUSIC & FOOD in OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI!

I woke up this morning knowing this is going to be a great weekend in Oxford, Mississippi!  This weekend is the 17th annual Double Decker Food, Music and Art festival.  I get to spend time with family,  longtime best friends from Oxford and Madison, Mississippi. This is one of the few time during the year that I get to interact directly with you all and I LOVE IT!  We will hit the Oxford Square at 6:30 in the a.m. to set up tents and get our art displayed in time for the 50,000 plus crowd. Please forgive us if we look a little sleepy!  We will be located on the west side of the square near AJAX restaurant. Below you can get a sneak peek of what you can find on the Oxford, MS Square tomorrow!
